We start school Monday and I barely have anything planned. This is so unlike me at all. Normally by now I know exactly what we are doing and everything is planned and ready to go. This year not so much.
I pretty much know the direction I want to go this year with Chase, I’ll post more when I have it 100% figured out. He’s supposed to be in 6th grade, but since he’s working at a 7th grade and above level, we are calling it 7th grade. I’m still up in the air about math, I bought Life of Fred Elementary Physics and the plan was to do that and then go to the LOF Pre-Algebra books. However, Chase is already complaining about the amount of reading and school hasn’t even started it. I have a one month trial of Time4Learning and so I think I’m going to allow him to try that for the next month and see if that is a good fit for him. I also think I may add in some T4L literature activities.
I have no clue where I’m going with Cait this year, I know we will do a combo of PreK/K stuff but at this point I’m not 100% sure. Hopefully as I start planning this weekend things will be come clearer. I’m thinking themed / literature based but I just don’t know. Any suggestions?
I have also decided this year to devote more time to field trips. So as you can see on our calender below that some weeks we only have school 3 days a week. Those weeks we will do some type of field trip on that Thursday. Friday is our park day with our homeschool group. I like having a pre-planned day for field trip and other activities built into our school schedule, it makes me feel like we won’t miss something if we decide to do something fun! And if we go on a field trip on another day besides Thursday, we have room to make that day up automatically!
So I have a folder for each kid for the first 12 weeks, that’s as far as I plan to plan for right now. This is where any worksheets, art projects, etc will be stored until they go into their weekly bins and then their workboxes. Their supplies are ready in their supply caddy. Everything is ready except most of the plans.
So guess what I’ll be doing this weekend? If you guessed planning you’re right. This weekend I’ll be using the free subscription of HomeSchool Minder I was given, to plan the first 12 weeks of our school year. I’ve played around with Homeschool Minder some over the last few weeks and I think we’re going to be a good fit. The calender is easy to use, it’s easy to fill in lessons & assignments and my favorite part, I can shuffle things around by just dragging them on the calender! I like that Chase can have his own log in and that everything can be access via our iPad. These are HUGE pluses for me! I can’t wait to dig into Homeschool Minder more while planning.
To help you plan Homeschool Minder is giving one lucky Peanuts Are Evil reader a free year subscription to Homeschool Minder and everyone 20% off a year subscription until September 20, 2013 with the code PAE20
I was given a subscription to HomeSchool Minder in exchange for displaying their link on my sidebar! All opinions are my own.
