I have been hearing about the Auvi-Q for months and couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. So a few months ago I talked to our pharmacist to see if the kid’s insurance would cover the cost of the Auvi-Q, when he said yes, I may have squealed. When we saw our pediatrician in July for Chase’s medication check up, I asked him about it (our pediatrician is also a board certified allergist and he’s amazing). He excitedly talked about the Auvi-Q and was more than happy to prescribe it! Our local Target pharmacist ordered it for me and a few days later it came in! This was the first time myself and the pharmacist had seem the Auvi-Q in person, I was excited.
I immediately opened it up to check it out. First impression, LOVE the size. As you can see in my picture below it is smaller than both my iPhone and my point and shoot camera and easier to carry in a pocket or purse than the Epi Pen. I like that is is BRIGHT orange and has for allergic emergencies on the front, since it isn’t well known at this time, my fear is that emergency personal won’t know what it is. I also like that you just push it to inject vs the swing and jab motion of the Epi Pen and it only needs to be administered for 5 seconds vs 10 seconds.
But my favorite part, is that it talks! Yep it does! It’s pretty awesome. It gives the user step by step instructions on how to use the auto injector, making it fairly idiot and panic proof! Check out my video with Rapunzel on how easy the Auvi-Q is to use. Like the Epi-Pen the Auvi-Q can be used through clothing!
And if you go to Auvi-Q’s website there is a savings card you can get that gets you $0 copays for the rest of the year with most insurance companies! How awesome is that!
Our family is sticking with the Auvi-Q for now. We really like it and it’s size and shape make it easier for a tween boy to carry!
